About the Art Education Program

The Art Education Major is a collaborative degree between the Art and Design Program and the Department of Education at WTAMU. It is designed to certify students to teach grades EC-12 Arts Education. There are also opportunities for students pursuing a B.F.A. in Studio Art or a B.A./B.S. in Art to also be certified! Check out your pathway options below.

Career Opportunities

TEACHING:

  • Art Instructor: Teach art to students in C - 12, and/or in private, international, or adult educational settings.
  • Teaching Artist: Freelance, work at a community setting, do long term residencies and workshops.
  • Art Program Advisor: Advise students and schools on art programmatic needs and pathways.
  • Museum Educator: Educate visitors about art museums and galleries and run educational programs.

OTHER OPTIONS:

  • Curriculum Designer: Create arts curriculum for programs, books, and instructors. Work with teachers on how to teach and implement successfully.
  • Art Director: Be responsible for visual style within industries such as social media, packaging, movies, and TV.
  • Arts Administrator/Program Coordinator: Take charge of the arts programming, build partnerships with local community institutions and schools, write grants, guide curriculum.
  • Art Therapist (with additional degree): Getting your masters/doctorate in Art Therapy allows you to work in a clinical setting using art.
  • Curator (with additional experience/degree): Get experience in the gallery setting and/or a focus on art history enables you to work in this field.
  • Art Professor (with additional degree): Getting your masters/doctorate in Studio or Art History allows you to teach at the collegiate level.
